Brainstorming session

On Thursday and Friday afternoons, we had a brainstorming session about the Pains and Gains of OTB. We also talked about your usages of the ToolBox. The main conclusions are:

  • The recent improvements in the installation are exciting.
  • The integration of OTB in Python is eagerly awaited, with an interface similar to PyOTB and an easy installation though “pip install”.
  • Improve the python API: the possibility to use xarray in addition numpy, call OTB filters in addition to OTB applications.
  • The documentation is great, but would benefit from some clarification (better indexation, promote the tutorials).
  • Have OTB Users Days more often!

Roadmap for the incoming OTB versions

The core OTB developers gathered to discuss the road-map for the incoming OTB versions. The road-map for version 10 is available on Gitlab. In includes:

  • Migration to ITK 5
  • The reintroduction of DiapOTB in the official remote modules
  • Support for NISAR sensor
  • The distribution of the modules in multiple repository
  • Updates in the cookbook and a migration guide for the remote modules
  • A first experimentation for the “pip install otb”

Stay tuned !
